Head Of Facebook's Messenger Application Announces That The Online Platform Is Ready To Explore Blockchain Technology

CNBC reports, the head of Messenger, Facebook's messaging application, David Marcus, declared that the social media website is looking into feasible applications for blockchain technology.

Marcus shared a post on his page that, “I'm setting up a small group to explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch."

Marcus is heading Messenger for about four years now. Last year,in December, he joined digital currency trade Coinbase as a member of board. However, Facebook hasn't uncovered how intrigued it is to apply blockchain technology.

Recode reports, the move comes forth as Facebook actualises a more extensive rearrangement for the team of products. Starting now and into the foreseeable future, the organisation will work under three divisions: a family of applications group, focal product services and new platform and infra.

At the beginning of this year, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he would investigate cryptocurrencies with a specific end goal to see their future perspective for engaging individuals. He expressed that decentralised frameworks like digital currency could help remove control from the centralised framework and place it back in the hands of people.

In January, Facebook started a sweeping prohibition on promotions of digital currencies and initial coin offerings. The ban came as a shock to a few, as the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg had beforehand communicated enthusiasm for digital currencies. Zuckerberg purportedly wanted to look into how the decentralised nature of digital currency could engage people and how to utilise them in the best way possible for the services.
